Through our strong link with Ghana we have been able to talk to many other organisations. We have recently been in touch with an organisation in Liberia, Western Africa. The organisation is called Youth Crime Watch Liberia, who are a partner organisation with the similarly named group from America. On the right hand side you will see some useful links, these will show you more about the work that the YCWL are doing in Liberia and the MRU Region. The MRU (Mano River Union) region is made up of 3 countries, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.
YCWL have recently been given a grant by the Japanese Government to construct a centre for gender empowerment for young girls and women. In Liberia, education is still seen as something for the elite few, so this centre will provide essential resources for the development of young females. The following news story tells you about this grant:
The project will take place in Paynesville, a suburb situated about 4km east of Monrovia the capital city. Liberia has had some well publicised problems of late, and for this reason we only expect the more seasoned traveller to take on this project. However we won't turn anyone away if they feel they have the right abilites to make the project succeed. Please get in touch if you feel you are suited to this project.
