Our work in Ghana takes place in the region around Butre, marked on the above map. It takes around 3 hours travelling from the capital Accra, to the small village of Butre, after arriving by plane.
The projects in Butre include a timber footbridge, which has serious structural problems (visit our Photo Gallery for images), waste management for the village and also water development too. For more details on the projects get in touch with us via e-mail or phone.
You are free to spend as much time as you like on the project, obviously with the aim of getting as much done as possible. Time of travel is also up to you as many of the projects are in the early stages and there is always a need for the maintenance of projects already underway. Friends of Ghana also offers volunteers from Engineering for Africa a discount on the costs and fees.
Are you interested in taking part in any of our projects in this region? You have the freedom to choose when to travel and we can provide you with a project that is suited to your skills and interests.
If you are interested in any way, shape or form then don't hesitate to get in touch.
Money can be the biggest problem when trying to organise a trip abroad, whether it is a simple holiday away or a long volunteering expedition. Because of this we try to encourage all of our volunteers to fundraise as much as they can. Even the smallest bit can make your life much easier when coming to pay for flights or project fees.
All members on the last trip to Butre were able to raise around £1300 each which paid for flights and project costs. The local community helped to raise a large sum of money with events such as a coffee morning. This is just one example of the ways you can raise extra money.
